Montreal freelance writer and a former editor of Take One: Film & Television in Canada Maurie Alioff interviewed an icon of Quebec cinema, Jean-Claude Labrecque csc. Labrecque began his career in the early 1960s at the National Film Board of Canada and has worked with directors such as Claude Jutra, Gilles Carle, Don Owen, Pierre Perrault, Michel Brault, Alanis Obomaswin, Catherine Martin, and recently with Bernard Émond. For eight weeks in November and December, the Cinémathèque québecoise is screening a major retrospective of Labrecque's nearly 50-year career in Canadian film, focusing on his work as a director. Also in this issue, Wyndham Wise spoke to DOP Jonathan Bensimon and director Simon Ennis about their film You Might As Well Live, and Don Angus reports on the misadventures of veteran cinematographer Harry Lake csc as he visited the world heritage site of Machu Picchu in Peru. Just a friendly reminder that the 2010 CSC member's directory updates are due by November 15. Please return the form recently mailed to you or update your online directory listing at www.csc.ca. The insert in this issue is the CSC nomination form for executive office. If you are interested in joining the CSC Executive, or if you know of someone who would like to join the executive please let us know by completing the form and sending to admin@csc.ca or mailing it to our office address. Nominations will be accepted up to December 31, 2009. Finally, a couple of corrections in previous issues are necessary. In the September issue of Canadian Cinematographer, on page 4, J.P. Locherer csc was mistakenly referred to as the second unit operator on Atom Egoyan's Chloe, DOP Paul Sarossy csc, bsc. Actually, J.P. was the second unit DOP. Thank you J.P. for your email and our sincerest apologies. And in the October issue, page 16, the first assistant A-Camera on the series The Bridge, which wrapped at the end of August in Toronto, was Dean Stinchcombe; however, the person pictured is Federico De Marco, second assistant A-Camera. Again, our apologies for the mix up. [ Magazine ][ Archives ][ Search ]
